Part 1 - Is This As Good As It Gets

Jamie Stilson

What if the church's greatest business isn't programs or buildings, but hope itself? This message challenges us to reconsider what biblical hope truly means—not the world's wishful thinking of 'I hope so,' but the confident expectation that God's promises are certain. We're invited to examine our own hearts with a piercing question: when we think about our future, what words honestly describe our feelings? Fear? Uncertainty? Excitement? The message draws us into Jeremiah 29, where God's people were trapped in exile, listening to false prophets who told them what they wanted to hear rather than what they needed to hear. In the midst of their captivity, God declares something revolutionary: 'I know the thoughts I think toward you... thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.' This isn't just ancient history—it's God's personal message to each of us today. The concept of 'the beautiful next' emerges as a powerful antidote to the lie that whispers 'this is as good as it gets.' Whether we're facing chronic illness, broken relationships, or uncertain transitions, God's plan is never to harm us but to prosper us. The challenge isn't to deny our present difficulties, but to trust that God can make our future better than our present, not necessarily by changing our circumstances, but by changing us. This is hope that transforms how we live today.
