Part 5 - Beware of What Seems Right

Jamie Stilson

This message confronts us with a challenging truth: we often seek clarity when God is calling us to trust. Drawing from Proverbs 14:12, we're reminded that 'there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end it leads to is death.' The central tension explored here is our human desire for control versus God's invitation into deeper relationship through surrender. We're presented with three categories of control in our lives: things we cannot control at all (the past, the future, other people), things we have limited control over (health, work, relationships), and things we have full control over (our attitude, actions, how we spend time, and whether we trust God). The profound insight shared about Mother Teresa's refusal to pray for clarity—choosing instead to pray for trust—challenges our modern obsession with having all the answers before we move forward. This message invites us to examine where we're spending our emotional energy: are we living in the rearview mirror of the past or anxiously fixating on an uncertain future? Or are we choosing to trust that what's next is the 'beautiful next' because God creates our future when we surrender to Him. The journey forward isn't about getting answers faster; it's about drawing deeper into relationship with the One who holds all our tomorrows.
